Endodontics – effective and precise root canal treatment

Endodontics is a procedure that involves cleaning the tooth canals, helping to preserve the natural tooth by alleviating inflammation and pain. This treatment is necessary when the tooth’s nerve (pulp) becomes inflamed and infected, a condition known as pulpitis.

If pulpitis is left untreated, it can lead to more serious dental and oral health issues, such as abscesses and bone loss around the tooth roots. Timely root canal treatment is crucial to maintaining the tooth’s functionality and avoiding extraction.

At our clinic, we perform endodontic treatments using a microscope, ensuring exceptional precision and minimizing the risk of re-infection. This technique helps to preserve the natural tooth for as long as possible. Our experienced endodontists meticulously perform root canal treatment to alleviate pain caused by the inflamed dental nerve and prevent the progression of pathological processes in the future.

Why choose microscopic endodontics?

Modern technology allows for the most effective root canal treatment. A microscope enables:

  • Reveal the finest details – allowing for precise diagnosis and treatment of tooth root canals.
  • Completely eliminate infection – by effectively cleaning the canals and preventing recurrent inflammation.
  • Reduce procedure time – as more accurate diagnostics often lead to fewer treatment sessions.
  • Save severely damaged teeth that would otherwise likely require extraction.
  • Ensure long-lasting results because properly performed treatment significantly reduces the chance of re-infection.

How is endodontic treatment performed?

1

Diagnosis and X-ray

The dentist examines the tooth and takes an X-ray to evaluate the root canal anatomy and determine the extent of inflammation. Based on the images, a personalized treatment plan is developed.

2

Anesthesia and Isolation

Before the procedure, local anesthesia is administered to ensure a pain-free experience. The tooth is then isolated using a rubber dam. This protects the tooth from moisture and bacteria, thereby enhancing the quality of the treatment.

3

Opening the Tooth Cavity and Cleaning the Canals

An opening is created in the tooth cavity to access the root canals. Through this access, the infected pulp is carefully removed. The canals are then meticulously cleaned and shaped using specialized endodontic instruments to eliminate bacteria and damaged tissue.

4

Canal Disinfection and Filling

The canals are disinfected with antibacterial solutions and sealed with gutta-percha material to prevent reinfection.

5

Tooth Restoration

Following the sealing of the root canals, the tooth is restored with a temporary or permanent filling. In some cases, a crown may be necessary to provide additional strength and protection. This final restoration ensures the tooth’s durability and functionality.

An X-ray is taken after the root canals are filled to confirm the successful completion of the procedure. Proper post-treatment care and regular dental check-ups will help maintain the long-term health of the treated tooth.

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of endodontic treatment can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the number and complexity of the tooth’s root canals. In certain situations, multiple appointments may be necessary.

FAQ

The procedure is performed under effective local anesthesia, making the treatment entirely painless. Each case is unique, and sometimes multiple visits are necessary to ensure the complete treatment of the root canal system.

The root canal filling materials used at our clinic are designed not to discolor the tooth structure.

With proper restoration and care, a correctly performed endodontic treatment can allow the tooth to last for many years.

The primary goal of root canal treatment is to completely eliminate inflammation and prevent its recurrence.

It is recommended to wait 1-2 hours until the anesthesia wears off completely.
